FOOTBALL SAFETY TRAINING

All Middle School and High School football coaches must complete school-district approved technique specific safety training similar to “Heads Up Football.” The training must include, but is not limited to, “hands on” Safer Tackling Techniques and Drills, Helmet, and Shoulder Pad fitting, concussion management with Return to Play Protocols following a concussion, Heat and Hydration training and Sudden Cardiac Arrest training. Football coaches will be required to repeat this training every two (2) years.

Football Safety Training Options:

  • Develop a school district approved program that includes “Hands on” in-person training.
  • Utilize a WIAA Master Clinician to train coaches in a school district approved program that includes “Hands on” in-person training.
  • Utilize the WIAA Master Clinician under the WIAA Training program and Register Coaches through “Register My Conference”. Coaches will be required to take online NFHS Tackling course prior to attending “Hands on” in-person clinic.
  • Utilize an outside Organization that delivers “Hands on” in-person Training for Football Coaches
  • Certification is good for 2 years for any of the 4 options

Prior to attending an in-person hands-on training, coaches must complete the free NFHS Football Tackling Course via the link below. Coaches must bring a copy of their certificate of completion to the hands-on clinic for the clinician to verify.

  • Hands-on Clinics are $45/coach with a school purchase order or $50/coach with credit card
  • A minimum of six (6) coaches must be registered in order to hold a clinic
  • A maximum of 30 coaches per/clinician per clinic
  • Please DO NOT register anyone other than yourself for a clinic. Those who plan to attend will need to register themselves under their own my247ed account
  • If you experience technical difficulties registering for a clinic, please contact Nick Mendro
